Joy Tirade is a visual artist working primarily in video, alternative process photography, and installation. She lives and works in Oakland, California, where she facilitates a community painting collective.
Artist Statement:
To heal the planet, we must heal our spiritual connection to it. I often use the body or the absence of the body to articulate a yearning for a better future—a future yet to be imagined or expressed.
My lens-based practice often focuses on how our environments can shape our consciousness and how a landscape or a place has a symbiotic relationship with its occupant. My work asserts that if we are going to heal the planet, we must first begin to heal our connection to our local environments and reconnect with nature, even in urban settings.
